GOOSEBUMPS
Music Video, 2020
Art Direction & Animation Direction
After What You Gonna Do??? and Survivin', Bastille approached me again, this time to create a visualizer for Goosebumps.
At the time, I didn’t really know what a visualizer was. I quickly realised it’s music industry code for, “We’d love a music video… we just can’t afford one.”
I didn’t want it to feel like a compromise.
The band was approaching its tenth anniversary, so instead of making another collage of looping animations, I suggested something different. Why not build a film that celebrated everything Bastille had created over the previous decade?
We filmed Dan in the studio, raided Bastille’s archive and stitched together moments from across ten years of the band’s history. Mixing new footage with old videos and collage, we built something that felt both familiar and completely new.
At first I wasn’t convinced we had enough material. Thankfully, I was wrong.
The biggest surprise came after we delivered it.
The band, management and label all told me it had become one of their favourite pieces we’d made together, especially considering it was created in less than three weeks and with a fraction of the resources of a traditional music video.
The project ended up becoming much more than a visualizer. It inspired the Goosebumps EP, for which I also designed the artwork and merchandise.
